Stories and Notes

·         Brendan McLoughlin said that there were 2 Pat Mcloughlins at the time (from Mallaranny?), known as the Pat Seamus’ and the Pat Thomas’.  We are the Pat Thomas’s.  Typically, this secondary name would indate the name of the father in order to differentiate the two people with the same name.  It could also be that Seamus (James) and Thomas were brothers, each naming a son Pat as per the Irish naming pattern.  There is a James McLoughlin listed in the 1832 Tithes, in Roskeen in the 1855 Griffiths, and the same James again listed in the 1901 Census in Roskeen.
