The Person

Aunt Mary was born in January of 1892, the second child of John and Bridget Gill, and the eldest daughter. Mary and John had two children, both daughters: Eileen and Mary.  John was noted for driving a big car.  John died at a young age (December 2, 1944) and Aunt Mary was left to fend for herself (her daughters both married young; Eileen to Buddy Stanton and Mary to Jimmy Rizzo).  Aunt Mary held numerous jobs; cleaning at City Hall, clerk at Baileys and also at Higbees.  She was a very happy and positive person and a hard worker.  She was always very cheerful.

Everything was "beau-tee-ful" and "lovely".  Aunt Mary never wanted to quit working.  When she was in her 80's her boss "discovered" that she was over 65.  She liked everyone and everyone liked her.  She was the godmother of Fr. Bob.

The Rizzo Connection

Mary Gill (daughter of John and Bridget Gill) married John McDonald.  The McDonalds's were cousins of the McCaffertys and are included in several of the photographs with the McCafferty children.  The McDonalds had 2 girls, Eileen (married Buddy Stanton), and Mary (married James Rizzo).  Mary and Jimmy had 2 children, Jimmy and Theresa.  Young Jimmy died tragically in 1945 at age six when he fell off a pier at Edgewater park and drowned.  Mary Rizzo died February 16th, 1993 and was buried at Holy Cross Cemetery.
